A professional air pump pulls a known volume of air through a spore-trap cassette over a set duration — typically 5 to 10 minutes per sample at a calibrated flow rate. Airborne spores impact onto a sticky slide inside the cassette, where the laboratory later identifies and counts them by genus.

Every project includes at least one outdoor control sample taken the same day, in the same conditions. Outdoor spore levels vary by season, weather, and location, so an indoor sample is only meaningful when compared to that day's outdoor baseline.

Air sampling shines when you cannot see the problem but suspect it: a persistent musty odor, unexplained allergy-like symptoms in specific rooms, recent hidden water damage, or a real estate deal that hinges on air quality. It is also our standard tool for post-remediation verification, where we confirm that a remediation contractor has actually cleared the affected area.

Where visible growth is already extensive, air sampling is usually less important — the answer is already on the wall. We will tell you when testing will add value and when it will not.

For suspected hidden growth inside wall cavities, we can perform targeted wall-cavity air sampling. A small probe inserted through a discreet hole draws air from inside the cavity. Comparing cavity spore counts to the room's air gives clear evidence of whether hidden growth is present.

This technique is minimally invasive and is a much better first step than opening large sections of drywall to look.

Your report shows spore counts per cubic meter of air by genus. We look at total spore load, the ratio of indoor to outdoor concentrations, and whether specific water-damage indicator species (such as Stachybotrys, Chaetomium, or Aspergillus/Penicillium at very high levels) are elevated inside. We then translate those numbers into a plain-language recommendation: no action, further investigation, or remediation.
